Gas prices continued a decline that started over the weekend, at both the gas and diesel lanes, AAA Mid-Atlantic reported today. The five-county Philadelphia area saw a 2-cent decrease overnight, to $4.07. South Jersey's average was down a cent, to $3.88.
The national average also went down a cent, to $4.03.
According to AAA Mid-Atlantic, 24 states now have gas prices averaging below $4.
In the diesel lanes, the Philly area saw the average go down 2 cents, to $4.96. In South Jersey, a 1-cent dip took the average price to $4.69.
At the national level, the diesel price was down a cent overnight, to $4.79.
Oil prices rose Thursday after shedding nearly $4 a barrel in the previous day's session on concerns that high fuel prices are dampening demand in the world's biggest energy consuming country.
A weekly report by the U.S. Energy Department's Energy Information Administration showed that gasoline demand over the four weeks ended July 18 was 2.4 percent lower than a year earlier - offering further evidence that Americans are cutting back on fuel.
