John Colocousis | Ford executive, 85

Nov 21, 2008

John Colocousis, 85, of Meadowbrook, an executive with Ford Aerospace and a member of the Lower Moreland Township Authority for 17 years, died Monday at Abington Memorial Hospital after a Nov. 12 car accident. A 1943 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, he worked in the Philadelphia area for the Philco Corp. and then the electronics division of Ford Motor, retiring in 1980.

"At one point," said his daughter Donna Creely, "he was director of the home-products division of Ford Aerospace."

In the 1960s and 1970s, she said, he would spend months at Ford operations in Brazil and in Taiwan.

From 1974 to 1991, he served on the Lower Moreland Township Authority, which, the township Web site says, "oversees the construction, operation and maintenance of the sewer system."

After his retirement, he took on executive positions with KenCrest in Plymouth Meeting, which provides services to children, youth and adults with development disabilities.

He served on the KenCrest board of directors from 1983 to 1988, including as treasurer in 1986 and as president in 1987-88.

At Glora Dei Lutheran Church in Huntingdon Valley, he was council president in 1967-68 and 1972-73. From 1954 to 1959, he was a member of the Lions Club in Audubon, Camden County, and its president in 1959.

Besides his daughter Donna, Mr. Colocousis is survived by sons John S. and Kenneth; another daughter, Rebecca Dorand; a sister; and four grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 570 Welsh Rd., Huntingdon Valley.
