Sideshow: Hayek, French beau call off engagement

Salma Hayek , 41, may have done irreparable harm to relations between Mexican Americans and the French with an announcement yesterday that she has called off her engagement to French bizman Francois-Henri Pinault , whose greatest attraction seems to be that he is heir to billions upon billions of Euros. The Mexican-born actress announced her betrothal to F-H in March '07. Six months later, she gave birth to their daughter, Valentina Paloma Pinault . No reasons, comments or explanations have been forthcoming. Britney gives them up The two-year custody battle between Britney Spears and Kevin Federline is over, attorneys for both sides confirmed yesterday. Looks like Brit may have gotten the short end of the stick on this one: She has agreed to let K-Fed retain sole custody of their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James - forever. For her recompense, Brit gets expanded visitation rights.
Garner really pregnant? Veteran actor Victor Garber , who has played Jennifer Garner 's pa on Alias , tells Us Weekly that Jen is pregnant with the spawn of Benjamin Affleck .
Garber, who officiated at Bennifer 2 's '05 wedding, was not too indirect with his confirmation.
"Yes, she is," he said.
The Ladies lose a gig Being busted for drugs doesn't do much for your cred if you're booked to play at a Walt Disney-organized kids' charity show. Canadian band Barenaked Ladies , whose front man, Steven Page , was charged July 11 with possession of cocaine, just learned that lesson the hard way. The band announced yesterday that they're pulling out of next month's Disney Music Block Party in Long Island, N. Y.
A defection for Falco? The Hollywood Reporter says Sopranos star Edie Falco is defecting to Showtime, which is thisclose to casting her in an untitled comedy about a New York nurse "juggling the frenzied grind of an urban hospital and an equally challenging personal life."
Jack Wagner to propose? In Touch Weekly claims that Jack Wagner , 48, who helped Heather Locklear check herself into an Arizona rehab last month, is ready to pop The Question. ITW says Jack already has discussed the matter with Heather's psychiatric team. (Will they give her away at the altar?)
