Everyone knows that however happy and goofy they might act in public, many comedians are deeply flawed human beings - inside they're sad, insecure, neurotic. Some even loathe themselves. So it's with a heavy heart that we report that Jimmy Kimmel , 40, and Sarah Silverman , 37, have split up after five years of going steady. Surely this is bound to propel one, if not both comics into a tailspin?
This is no joke. The late-night talk-show host and the lovely, filthy-mouthed girl genius really are done.
"Jimmy and Sarah are no longer dating . . . and will have no further comment," Lewis Kay and Amy Zvi , the respective reps for Kimmel and Silverman, said yesterday in a joint statement.
They would not give a reason for the bust-up. Brad wanted to keep it local So why did a provincial French newspaper scoop every major international news outlet when it came to the birth of Brangelina 's twins, boy Knox Leon and girl Vivienne Marcheline , at 6:27 p.m. (French time) Saturday at Lenval hospital in the south of France?
Blame the daddy, Brad Pitt .
The Associated Press reported yesterday that Brad wanted the local paper, the 280,000-circulation Nice-Matin, to have the story first.
"It was Brad Pitt who chose to give the scoop to Nice-Matin," assistant editor in chief Olivier Biscaye told the AP. "He said to the doctor that the local media should be the first informed about the birth."
Errors made by other news outlets include In Touch Weekly's Web site, which said Jolie gave birth to two girls and, of course, the American TV show Entertainment Tonight , which has been insisting for weeks that the babies were born in late May. And French gossip magazine Closer had the birth happen nearly two weeks ago. Oops . . .
Nice-Matin has extensive coverage of celebs who live and vacation in the area, but it respects celebs' privacy, said Christophe Caietti , editor of the paper's magazine section.
Doc: Brad was calm, yet emotional Ticking off a veritable laundry list of affective states, obstetrician Michel Sussmann told reporters that Pitt, who was at Jolie's side during the birth, was "perfectly calm, totally determined, very pleased to be at the birth of his children, very moved, and very emotional."
Brad was so cool and helpful, he even cut the babies' umbilical cords for the doc.
Another happy couple . . . Black Eyed Peas rapper Taboo ( Jaime Gomez ) married his gal, Jaymie Dizon , on Saturday, reports People.
Whoopi to appear on Broadway Multitalented entertainer Whoopi Goldberg , 52, who has lately been busy as a cohost on the gabshow The View , announced yesterday on the show that she was joining the Broadway production of the roller-skating musical Xanadu , based on the influential film classic starring Olivia Newton-John . Whoopi will begin a six-week engagement on July 29. She'll be subbing for show regular Jackie Hoffman , who plays evil sister Calliope. Her costars will include Kerry Butler , Cheyenne Jackson and Tony Roberts .
Kate to film musical Speaking of casting changes, Kate Hudson is joining Daniel Day-Lewis , Nicole Kidman, Marion Cotillard , Penelope Cruz , Judi Dench and Sophia Loren on the cast of the film musical Nine. USAToday.com says shooting starts in the U.K. on Oct. 10.
Madonna's bro on Madonna's hubby Guy Ritchie is a homophobe who destroyed the close, loving relationship between Madonna and her brother, Christopher Ciccone . So said Christopher Ciccone yesterday on Good Morning America . CC is hawking some book he wrote about his sister.
Kyra and Kev to celebrate 20 years "I think that no matter what, sex has to be involved." So says Kyra Sedgwick when asked how she and Kevin Bacon will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary on Sept. 4.
"But for our anniversary we would also like to have a party, so we might include Kev's birthday as well," Kyra said. (Kev turned the big 5-0 last week.) Kyra said she and Kevin had discussed having more kids.
The Woods have a tiff Britain's The Daily Mail cites unconfirmed, anonymous sources that claim Jo Wood has decided to end her 23-year marriage to Ronnie Wood . Why?
Perhaps it's because the 61-year-old Rolling Stones guitarist has run off with 18-year-old cocktail waitress Ekaterina Ivanova .
Then again, perhaps Jo has other reasons.
Get to know Naomi better Ever think the reason Brit supermodel Naomi Campbell has such a bad rep as a cell-phone- wielding rage-aholic is because the poor girl is just misunderstood?
Then again, maybe not.
"I never justify or explain myself and I'm not going to do it now," Naomi tells The Insider when asked if she feels misunderstood.
"I live each day at a time and I try to live the best that I can because you don't know what is going to happen. I'm human, I make mistakes, so don't put me on a pedestal. I live my life as best as possible. I am just grateful and appreciate the blessings I have," the model said. "I'm open, giving and loyal."
A Miss Universe debacle. Again
Miss USA, Crystle Stewart of Texas, disgraced her country, her title - and her spirit - at the Miss Universe 2008 pageant yesterday when she tripped on the train of her evening gown just as she was making her entrance.
Needless to say, the gaffe - the second such disaster to befall Miss USA in as many years - lost our nation the pageant, which is co-owned by Donald Trump and NBC.
The winner was Miss Venezuela, Dayana Mendoza , who says she learned to maintain her poise under pressure when she was kidnapped and held for ransom in her homeland.
Last year's Miss USA, Rachel Smith , also took a tumble in the evening-gown competition at the 2007 Miss Universe pageant in Mexico City. Her fall became a big hit on YouTube.
