DON'T BE surprised if you see "Good Night, and Good Luck" star David Strathairn around town. The actor told a woman who approached him around 12th & Spruce Monday night that he has been working in town for about a week, though we're not quite sure on what. Strathairn has worked here before, including starring in "Cherry Docs" at the Wilma in 2000, and in 2002 in "Every Good Boy Deserves Favor" at the Kimmel Center. His last agency says it no longer reps him and he has listed no current contact information with the Screen Actor's Guild.

'From Gs to Gents' to Hollywood

Mikey P , part of local hip-hop/pop act DaCav5 , is among 15 contestants learning charm and chivalry on "From Gs to Gents," which premiered last night on VH1. Mikey aka Mike Pericoloso was graduated from Rancocas Valley Regional High in Mount Holly in 2003, and says that he's "looking to get as many bookings as I can while the show is hot."

The aspiring model/actor was recently cast as "Hot College Guy" in "Transformers 2." DaCav5 is recording an album titled "Guilty Pleasure," and recently added a single, "The Runway," on iTunes. The Hollywood bug has bitten Mikey, who plans to move to Los Angeles by September in order to pursue more acting opportunities.

Filmmaker praises filmmaker

Churchville-raised Tom Quinn has been named one of Filmmaker magazine's 25 New Faces of Independent Film. Quinn's film "The New Year Parade" won the Grand Jury Award for Best Narrative Feature at the 14th annual Slamdance Film Festival, which ran alongside the Sundance Film Festival in January.

The film, shot largely in South Philly, deals with the effects of divorce on a family, and prominently features the South Philadelphia String Band . The 31-year-old Archbishop Wood and La Salle grad, is seeking distribution for the movie.

Stamos hosting Saget roast

John Stamos will serve as roastmaster for the upcoming Comedy Central roast of Mount Airy/Abington-raised comedian Bob Saget . The "Full House" co-stars will be reunited Aug. 3 in Los Angeles for the roast which airs Aug. 17 at 10 p.m. Roasters will include Susie Essman , Greg Giraldo , Artie Lange , Tracy Morgan and Jeffrey Ross .

Local animal outfit's show airs

Animal Planet's "Animal Cops: Philadelphia," a series following the Pennsylvania SPCA's animal-rescue efforts, premieres at 10 tonight. The PSPCA is celebrating with invited guests, including some animals rescued by the agency during taping of the show, at a screening party tonight at the Franklin Institute.

Short stuff

Screen legend Ron Jeremy and adult-film sensation Jesse Jane will be guest judges at the Diamond G-String Award contest presented by Delilah's (100 Spring Garden) on July 23.

* Shake Your Tambourine, a night of '70s disco and '80s R&B with DJ Billy W. , is now being held Saturdays at The Institute (12th & Green), which has an impressive beer list and was previously Jesse's Tenderline Cafe.

* Kristin Hedberg , who lives near Tony Roni's Pizza (4504 City Ave.), has won a contest from the pizzeria for one pizza per week for one year. *
